Final Dirty Weekend of the Year

Hi Everyone,
long time no dirty weekend!!
As we have nothing on the sailing program for Saturday 13 th October 2012,
I am organising a final “Dirty Weekend at Lydney Yacht Club” on that day.

We will be doing an End-Of-Season clean up of all the long grass, loose rubbish,
and crud around the groundfloor of the clubhouse. Also, springcleaning the Clubroom, ante-room and Kitchen prior to the AGM.

The 2013 Rear Commodore will no doubt be organising regular “Clean Weekends”
after the AGM on 27th October during which we hope to see many new enthusiasts
coming down and having fun with shovels, strimmers, brushes, scrapers, concrete, etc etc. (And no, You don’t get to ride on the new tractor-mower, that’s for the committee to play with!!)

In early 2013, assisted by the RYA, LYC will be presenting a club development plan to see if we can attract Sport-England funding for various major projects which have been suggested / requested by the membership in reply to the questionaire earlier this season. These and the thinking behind them will be outlined at the AGM.

As some of you may already be aware, I am standing down as rear Commodore, at the AGM, and will be standing for election as Vice Commodore in the new committee for 2012 /2013 .

If elected, I shall apply the same principles to the cruiser and inter-club sailing programme as have been very successfully applied to the work program during 2011 / 2012. ( ie. Make it fun and get lots of you down to the club enjoying yourselves) In 2013 in co-ordination with the new sailing and social secretaries, we shall be providing masses of interesting sailing events and “Apres-Sail” social stuff as well.

It would be my intention to get even more interesting external events to Lydney Harbour on a regular basis, such as the Old Gaffers; Pilot Cutters, British Classic Yacht Club, South Wales Offshore Group (SWOG), Wayfarer Association, Drascombe Association etc etc. Also, anyone interested in helping to get “SLOG” (Severn Lydney Offshore Group) up and running to compete against SWOG, please email me.

Now we are at last coming out of the prolonged UK recession, I personally feel it is time to seriously ramp up the action in 2013 and put Lydney back on the map as a sailing centre of excellence, especially with regard to our long-held reputation as a Wayfarer Cruising Club. So please bring your ideas to the AGM….

My own Boat ( an Oliver Lee designed Hunter701 drop keel cruiser-racer) will be in the water for the end of March 2013 after a 5 year restoration and I lam looking forward to some serious competitive fun with the other O.J. Lee designed boats in the club and some others which live down the Channel. (anybody got a “Squib” or two in their back-garden?

By the way lets see all those derelict boats in the yard cleaned up and back in the ‘oggin next year.

See you all with your wellies on Saturday 13th. Sarnies and log fire provided as usual. Bring your own tools.
