Once again a useful work day last Saturday, 24th March.
The usual stalwart gang turned up and we have now finished raking out and smoothing the old sail-loft area ready for rolling / grass seed, Thanks to Roger B. and Ivan S.
Gus and yours-truly got stuck into the last bit of the bank clearance behind the clubhouse with valuable assistance From Gus’s little yellow Tonka tractor.
Dave Phillips and Hedley got stuck into the engine change on the safety boat and met some teething snags, however, all is now well. Watching the pair of them dancing with “Miss Mercury” was quite fun (see video) and the usual delay whilst waiting for water to emerge from the cooling pump outlet caused minor consternation (well, to me, anyway!!) Some final bits and pieces remain to be sorted prior to test-flights next weekend.
Susan enthusiastically cleaned the clubhouse carpets and kitchen floor following the police and rescue exercise at the club last week . Gillian as usual provided excellent chilli and coffee, whilst giving her boat a birthday. She looks fantastic Gill, let’s hope everyone else follows your example! I’m very keen on the club being green and having lots of grass – but on the boats – maybe not!?
The last major project in the Club compound, will be the laying of a slabbed terrace in front of the club building; we plan to get this done by the end of April, after which we will be attending to the signage etc to make the place more welcoming for visitors during the summer.
WE DO NEED A REGULAR TEAM OF GRASS-CUTTERS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER; IF YOU HAVE NOT JOINED A WORK PARTY SO FAR (AND MANY OF YOU HAVEN’T), PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR THIS RELATIVELY PLEASANT LIGHT EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASIS
News from the E.A.;
The drive from the EA gate to the club will be closed for a day or so at some point in the next couple of weeks whilst it is asphalted. The fence next to the safety boat hut is being replaced and a cruiser pontoon installed in the main basin next to the steps so please keep this area clear. A top-gate is also being installed up by the swing bridge to enable the “boy-racers” to be excluded when desired. Members will have keys to this gate, but the default position will be “Open”.

Get them Boats Rollin’ Lasses and Lads, we’ve almost got the premises sorted now, so you’ve no excuse for not coming down to play…..
